Q&AĀ
Why did you join The Pack?
āI joined the pack because I support their mission in helping trades. Being involved in other areas of business I noticed that the trade community were being undervalued and facingĀ hard times. The mission of Jackal to donate to a trade charity to ensure support for tradespeople is inspiring.Ā WhatāsĀ not to like about any businessĀ whoāsĀ willing to help the community?āĀ
Ed saw in Jackal somethingĀ genuineāaĀ brand doing more than just sellingĀ workwear, butĀ looking out for the people who wear it.Ā
What made you get into the trade?
āI started my career about six months ago to become an electrician. After working in AI, software,Ā securityĀ and insurance, I knew it was now or never to learn a trade. I wanted a skill for life that could be passed to future generationsāmany years after my dad told me to learn a trade at collegeā¦Ā IāmĀ finally taking his advice.Ā DonātĀ tell him he was right!āĀ
A late start, but a powerful one. Edās career move provesĀ itāsĀ never too late to follow your instincts and build something solid.Ā
Whatās the weirdest thing thatās ever happened to you on-site?
āLuckilyĀ IāveĀ never been a victim of site banter (yet), but in security I saw aĀ rookieĀ sent to buy tartan paint and a left-handed brush. Another funny oneāI shouted āBANG!ā behind an engineer working in a London hotel, and he fell off the ladder in shock. No humans were hurt in the fun!āĀ
A sparky sense of humour and solid prank credentialsāEd fits right in with the Pack spirit
If you were a tool, what would you be and why?
āProbably a tape measureāI need some extraĀ inchesĀ but Iām guaranteed to wind up!āĀ
A perfect mix of honesty and banter, just how we like it.Ā
What Jackal design do you want to see next and why?
āSomething electrifyingāmaybe aĀ Jackal being mischievous with electrics. Or a boat on the water filled with brooms⦠leaving for France.āĀ
Do you have a question for The Pack we can put out from The Jackal account?
āWhatās the biggest tip or advice youād give a trainee or apprentice?āĀ
Great fuel for trade wisdom and a conversation every apprentice should hear.Ā

Industry Insights:Ā on Key Trade Issues
Mental Health in Construction
āSuch an important topic. Society is changing its views, especially about men talking andĀ opening up, butĀ thereāsĀ still a long way to go. We should be educating the public about why tradespeople struggleālikeĀ late paymentsĀ from customers and the knock-on effects.Ā
Mental health courses,Ā trainingĀ and advice should all be free if we want real change.Ā IāveĀ faced plenty of barriers myself and had daily thoughts of suicide leading to dark places, but every time, something or someone helps me reset.Ā ThatāsĀ the messageāopen your mind to wanting help and it will find you.āĀ
Edās lived experience shows how vital open conversations and accessible support areānot just for those struggling, but for the whole trade community.Ā
Tool Theft in the Building Trade
āLuckilyĀ IāveĀ not had any tools stolen, but working with insurance and trades,Ā IāveĀ seen how big the issue is. So much is being done behind the scenes, but we need to keep supporting each other, standingĀ togetherĀ and acting as a community. We can all help by protecting our equipmentāprevention is better than cure.āĀ
For Ed, the best defence is teamworkālooking out for one another and keeping the trade united.Ā
