đž Pack Mentality Spotlight: Matthew Taylor â Tiling, Teamwork & Tunes  đž
Â
Meet Matthew Taylor (@matthewtaylortilingservices)âa tiler with a big heart, a love for good people, and a knack for making every job brighter. Matthewâs story is all about community spirit, resilience, and the power of a good singalong on site.
Â
Why did you join The Pack?
âI always believe itâs nice to be nice, and the fact that Jackal donates money to charities and causes is a huge thumbs up from me. Not to mention the eye-catching imagesâit just feels good to be part of a family like that. Itâs always good to surround yourself with good people.â
Â
How did you get into tiling?
âMy uncleâs brother-in-law was a tiler down south and said it was a good job that pays well. So, I put it down as my first choice when applying for college and apprenticeships through the CITB at Leeds College of Building. Before that, I wanted to be a mechanicâbut with my fat fingers, itâs probably a good thing I didnât go down that route!â
Â
Weirdest on-site moment?
âThe most bizarre moment was working nights at Meadowhall, changing some tiles, when there was an earthquake. We were sat on stools in the food hall having a break, and it was like being out at seaâthe chandeliers were swinging like a park swing! đđâ
Â
If you were a tool, what would you be?
âIf you can call it a tool, Iâd be the site radio. I love a good sing-song while workingâeven though I canât sing for my life! It cheers the customers up, and we like to make people laugh and smile.â
Â
Dream Jackal design?
âIâd love to see the Jackal doing some tile-related stuff, or even a few Jackals togetherâa joiner Jackal, a bricky Jackal, all walking onto a Jackal work site. Thatâd be brilliant!â
Â
Matthewâs question for The Pack:
âWhy all the cloak and dagger? đ Only joking! But seriously, what else are you thinking of doing besides work clothes? Any plans for tools or other gear?â

Industry Insights
Mental health in construction: âA close friend Iâve worked with for years suffers from anxietyâhe was even my mentor at one stage. It just shows mental health can affect anyone. Itâs always good to talk, and Iâm glad to say heâs doing better these days. My advice: donât let anything eat you up. Speak to people ASAP about any issues, mental health or not, before they turn into bigger problems.â
Â
Tool theft: âI had my van broken into a few years back. Iâd left my manual tile cutters in there over the weekend, and come Mondayâvan broken into, all four cutters gone, plus my multi-saw and a wallet with about 100 CDs (I did say I like a sing-song!). Had to sort out the van lock and replace the tools. I even saw suspicious blokes being dropped off nearby, told the police, but nothing happened. Tool theft is a nightmare for tradespeople.â
Â
Matthewâs story is about kindness, resilience, and keeping the site positiveâone tile and one tune at a time. Proud to have him in The Pack!
