🐾 Pack Mentality Spotlight: Nick - JJ Roofing  🐾

Why We’re Proud to Have Nick & JJ Roofing Supplies in The Pack

When we talk about ā€œPack Mentalityā€ at Jackal Workwear, we’re talking about more than just workwear—it’s about community, support, and lifting up the trade together. That’s why having Nick and the JJ Roofing Supplies team in our Pack means so much.

Nick isn’t just a marketing expert—he’s a true advocate for the trade. He’s spent years turning muddy yards and long days into stories worth celebrating, never shying away from tough topics like mental health or tool theft. His honesty, humour, and drive to make a difference are what the Pack is all about.

JJ Roofing Supplies have backed the trades for decades, supporting movements like #StopToolTheft and championing mental health awareness. They don’t just serve the trade—they champion it, every single day.

Here’s our exclusive Q&A with Nick, the main man behind JJ Roofing Supplies’ marketing and a proud member of the Jackal Pack.

Ā

Why Did You Join The Pack?

ā€œIntrigued at first… what’s this all about, and who’s behind the Jackal? I had a few incorrect guesses to begin with, even being identified as the Jackal myself 🐺! But once I got a feel for it, I liked what it stood for—a proper community vibe, supporting people in the trade without taking itself too seriously. It’s solid gear, a bit of fun, and a brand that seems to actually listen. I rate that.ā€

Ā

What Made You Get Into the Roofing Trade?

ā€œThis is where I’m a bit of a lone Jackal šŸŗā€¦ I’m not actually a tradie, but I’ve been a kickass marketeer for JJ Roofing Supplies for over a decade. I’ve spent more time in our yards than behind a desk—speaking to roofers, learning how the trade actually works, and making sure our marketing reflects the people it’s for. I’ve been up on the odd roof, but mostly I’ve been on the ground, camera in hand, trying to turn muddy yards and dusty stock into something that cuts through and feels genuine. My job’s been about making the trade feel seen—not polished, not fake—just real and worth celebrating.ā€

Ā

What’s the Weirdest Thing That’s Ever Happened to You On-Site?

ā€œA roofer on a roof in the rain… nah, this one's less weird and more vile. Back in the day, I worked with a guy who was challenged to a neck nomination (remember those?) and one day he took things way, way too far. He sent me a video—let’s call it... experimental. Instead of drinking the pint, he gave himself what I can only describe as a DIY colonic irrigation with the pint, then drank it afterwards—floaters and all. 🤢 Honestly, it hurts to remember it! At the time, it was up on YouTube. It’s since been taken down—probably by some higher power trying to protect humanity. Possibly oversharing here, but you asked!ā€

Ā

If You Were a Tool, What Would You Be and Why?

ā€œI reckon I’d be a sander with a fine finishing pad—not just because it sounds fancy, but because I’m all about the details. I like getting things right, even if it means an extra pass or a bit more patience. I’m not the sledgehammer smashing through the job—I’m the finishing tool you reach for when things need to be tidy, sharp, and clean. Jack of all trades, maybe, but always chasing perfection.ā€

Ā

What Jackal Design Do You Want to See Next and Why?

ā€œI’d love to see all the Jackal AI kid characters on one tee—back to back, arms crossed, proper squad vibes—with the slogan: Jackal of All Trades, Master of None šŸ‘Š. It’d be a nod to the mix of personalities and skills that make up the trade, and the fact that most of us are spinning plates, figuring it out as we go, and still smashing it. Bit tongue-in-cheek, but it would fly off shelves… I think!ā€

Ā

Do You Have a Question for The Pack?

ā€œWhat’s the one thing no one warned you about before getting into the trade? (Mine: how savage the tea politics are.)ā€

Industry Insights: Mental Health and Tool Theft in the Roofing Trade

Ā

Mental Health in Construction

Nick is passionate about mental health, drawing from his background at an NHS Mental Health Unit and the charity Mind. He’s also the Mental Health Lead at JJ Roofing Supplies.

ā€œThere’s so much pressure in the trade—chasing leads, quoting jobs, keeping customers happy, all while trying to earn enough to provide for your family. And most of the time, you’re doing it solo. It’s isolating, and it’s tough. It’s getting spoken about more, which is progress, but it’s still a hard space. You’re expected to just crack on, no questions asked. I’ve seen mates go quiet and disappear into themselves, not because they’re weak, but because there’s no obvious outlet.

We need more honesty, more check-ins, and more people in the trade willing to say, ā€˜You alright?’—and actually mean it.ā€

Ā

Tool Theft: The Ongoing Battle for Tradespeople

ā€œWe’ve seen countless customers walk into JJ’s looking white as a sheet—because they’ve been done over, again. You can spot it a mile off. And it’s not just one-offs. I’ve followed people like Shane the Plumb on Instagram and it’s gutting to see him—and others—getting done time and time again.

But we are starting to fight back. Selecta DNA is a proper deterrent—making tools too hot to handle—and there’s finally some movement with MPs taking the issue seriously. But we can’t ease up. We need tougher sentencing, real crackdowns on where stolen gear is being flogged, and continued pressure to keep this front and centre.

I’ve backed the #StopToolTheft movement since the first rally build-up in June 2024 and the petition to Parliament. If we have to go again—another rally, another push—I’ll be there, camera in hand, making sure it gets seen. We can’t let it slide.ā€

Join the Pack: Share Your Story

A massive thank you to Nick for joining us and sharing his story. If you see him at the Roofing Tradeshow, say hi—and don’t forget to answer his question:

What’s the one thing no one warned you about before getting into the trade?

At Jackal Workwear, we’re proud to run alongside Nick and JJ Roofing Supplies. Here’s to keeping it real, standing up for the industry, and proving every day that the Pack is always stronger together.
