🐾 Pack Mentality Blog: Spotlight on Sophie Keepence of Plumby Mummy 🐾

'

At Jackal, we believe that the strength of The Pack comes from the real people who make up our community. Every month, we shine a spotlight on a tradesperson whose journey, honesty, and spirit capture what it means to be part of the Pack Mentality. This time, we’re proud to introduce Sophie Keepence, better known as @plumbymummy-a trailblazing plumber, mum, and advocate for authenticity in the trades.Ā

Ā

Why Did You Join The Pack?

For Sophie, it wasn’t just about finding workwear that fit the job-it was about finding a brand that fit her values. As she puts it:Ā

ā€œYou are more than just workwear, you’re an absolute vibe! I love the no bull s**t approach and the charities you support. The kids range is also super cute-I need to get one.ā€Ā

Sophie’s answer sums up what we aim for at Jackal: to be more than just a label, and to create a community with a conscience.Ā

Ā

What Made You Get Into the Trade?

Sophie’s journey into plumbing is a testament to determination and second chances. She shares:Ā

ā€œI wanted to be a plumber at 17, but I didn’t feel like the options were available. Also, 20 years ago things were just different to now. When I was pregnant with my youngest daughter I decided to just go for it or I never would! So I signed up for college.ā€Ā

Her story is a reminder that it’s never too late to pursue your passion, and that breaking into the trades can be a bold, empowering move-no matter your age or background.Ā

Ā

What’s the Weirdest Thing That’s Ever Happened to You On-Site?

Everyone in the trades has a story or two that makes you laugh (or cringe). Sophie keeps it real:Ā

ā€œHaven’t really been on site but pissing in a bucket is all I have right now lol and that’s the norm!ā€Ā

It’s the kind of honesty we love-no filter, just the reality of life in the trade.Ā

Ā

If You Were a Tool, What Would You Be and Why?

We ask this one to get a sense of our Pack’s personalities, and Sophie’s answer is spot on:Ā

ā€œMulti-tool! As I’m an all-rounder.ā€Ā

Versatile, adaptable, and always ready for whatever comes next-that’s Sophie in a nutshell.Ā

Ā

What Jackal Design Do You Want to See Next and Why?

We’re always listening to The Pack for inspiration, and Sophie’s got a clear vision:Ā

ā€œI think a proper female one, like girly but strong.ā€Ā

It’s a call for workwear that represents the strength and individuality of women in the trades-something we’re passionate about delivering.Ā

Ā

Your Question for the Next Pack Member

Every feature ends with a question for the next tradesperson, and Sophie’s is a fun one:Ā

ā€œIf you could be any age for the rest of your life, what age would you be?ā€Ā

Mental Health in Construction

Sophie’s experience with mental health goes far beyond the workplace-it’s a daily reality for her and her family:Ā

ā€œNot so much construction related mental health but unfortunately my daily life revolves around mental health, not just me but my closest family. My father lost his life to mental health and my uncle has catastrophic injuries due to attempting to take his life, it also gets even closer to home but I can't discuss that. Mental health is such a cruel illness and so underfunded it lets so many people down so charity's are absolutely essential.ā€Ā

Her words are a stark reminder that mental health struggles don’t stop at the site gate. The need for better support, funding, and open conversation is urgent-and it’s something we’re committed to championing at Jackal.Ā

Ā

Tool Theft

Tool theft is a constant threat for everyone in the trades, and while Sophie’s been fortunate so far, she knows the risks:Ā

ā€œThankfully I haven't as of yet but I don't have a van and being what tools I do have are locked away every day. My heart goes out to those who have experienced tool theft and I’m šŸ’Æ behind stopping this.ā€Ā

Ā

Final Word

Her vigilance is a lesson for us all, and her empathy for victims of tool theft is what makes The Pack stronger.Ā

Sophie’s story is exactly why we launched the Pack Mentality series-to celebrate real people, real journeys, and real talk. Whether it’s breaking into the trade later in life, calling out the tough realities, or advocating for better mental health support, Sophie embodies the spirit of The Pack.Ā
