🐾 Pack Mentality Blog: Spotlight on Stephen Baker of S.B Multitrade 🐾

Welcome to Pack Mentality, our weekly blog feature that celebrates the incredible members of The Pack. At Jackal Workwear, we believe in more than just grafting hard—we believe in building a community that supports, inspires, and connects tradespeople from all walks of life. Each week, we shine a spotlight on one member’s story, highlighting their journey, insights, and contributions to the industry.

Ā

This week, we’re thrilled to introduce Stephen Baker, the man behind S.B Multitrade. From overcoming challenges as a teenager to building his own business and advocating for mental health and action against tool theft, Stephen’s story is one of resilience and determination.

Ā

Why Did You Join The Pack?

"The reason I joined The Pack was because I loved the idea of it being run by anonymous people and their aim to help the trade community and trade charities."

Ā

What Made You Get Into the Trade?

"At 13, I got kicked out of my third secondary school and kicked out of home. After finishing acting like an idiot, I thought I’d better do something with my life.Ā

Ā

I started off fitting kitchens and bathrooms before moving on to working on very high-end houses across London. Finally, at 18, I took the leap and started **S.B Multitrade** with just a Facebook page. Now, 13 years on, it’s still got hardly any followers!"

Ā

If You Were a Tool, What Would You Be and Why?

"I would be a 305mm mitre saw because it’s powerful and sharp and gets the job done—just like me.ā€

What Jackal Design Do You Want to See Next and Why?

"How can I answer this when no one knows what will be published next? It would be cool to see a Jackal drifting an old-school car!"

Ā

Your Question for the Next Pack Member

"Red pill or blue pill? (If you’ve seen The Jackal post, you should know what I’m on about!)"

Industry Insights with Stephen Baker

Ā

Mental Health in Construction

"I would love to see more being done around people in the construction game getting counselling and financial advice where needed."

Ā

Tool Theft

"YES—I HAVE BEEN A VICTIM. In fact, tool theft nearly made me take my own life. It’s a bloody horrible experience being that low that you feel that is the best option to take.Ā

Ā

A lot more needs to be done about it—tougher laws, harsher punishments—but most importantly, you need to mark your tools so the police can identify who owns them and return them to the rightful owner."

Ā

Stephen has been vocal about his experience with tool theft at industry events, sharing how thieves emptied his van in less than five minutes. He advocates for stronger penalties for offenders and better support for tradespeople affected by this devastating crime.

Ā

Final Word

Stephen’s story is what Pack Mentality is all about: overcoming challenges, supporting others in the trade community, and pushing for real change in an industry that faces unique struggles. From his dedication to mental health advocacy to his fight against tool theft, Stephen is an inspiration to us all.

Ā

Thank you for sharing your story with us, Stephen—you’re an integral part of The Pack! 🦊

Proud to call him a friend, he’s always been one to help but what he’s doing around tool theft and mental health just shows what a top guy he is
